The Lab-Volt Automation 5150 Robot is a precision-built, articulated-arm robot that provides training in the programming and operation of industrial style robots. Through the curriculum and hands-on experience gained in working with the 5150 Robot, students learn to create automated work cells ideal for flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) and computer integrated manufacturing (CIM). Bundled with a complete software development kit (SDK), the 5150 Robot allows for the creation of custom robot-control software.
The 5150 Robot has a stepper motor located in the base of the unit that provides horizontal rotation, while five additional stepper motors located in the shoulder provide precision movements of specialized components and use several joints simultaneously to perform a programmed move sequence through a teach pendant. The base of the unit includes one connector for an external stepper motor which can be used for further experimentation, such as operating the Rotary Carousel. The robot has four external device control connections, one of which is mounted on the shoulder and three of which are mounted in the base. The 5150 Robot connects to a lightweight 12 VDC switching power supply, and a parallel port interface allows for direct control from a standard computer printer port. The 5150 Robot also includes ROBOTUS?software that allows the robot to be simulated offline and directly controlled from the computer. This software provides a real-time 3D simulation of the robot and its immediate environment. |
