The Motors, Generators, and Controls Circuit Board and Course provides comprehensive, hands-on instruction in the terminology, principles, and operations of the DC motor, AC synchronous motor, phase shifter, and stepper motor. Following a carefully designed instructional program, students become proficient with analog and pulse-width modulated (PWM) DC motor positioning, analog and PWM DC motor speed control, variable frequency speed control of an AC synchronous motor, operation of a tachgenerator circuit, and speed and position control of a stepper motor with optional computer interface. The students may take the course using the Windows based WinFACET System (network or stand-alone) or the non-computer FACET System

Students answer multiple choice questions, real number questions, and perform troubleshooting exercises to demonstrate competency as they master course objectives. With up to 12 circuit faults to troubleshoot and 20 circuit modifications to observe and measure, FACET-trained students master skills necessary for employment and advanced studies.

The Motors, Generators, and Controls Circuit Board includes the following six circuit blocks.

In addition, the circuit board contains the following:
Built-in tachgenerator circuit
Procedures subdivided into short sections for more hands-on training
Optional interface with the 32-Bit Microprocessor module
Students learn the operation and function of:
DC motors in analog and pulse servo systems
Linear and pulsed signal speed control of DC motors
Variable frequency control and speed monitoring of synchronous motors
Speed and position control of stepper motors

The Circuit Board is mounted in a sturdy polystyrene tray for easy handling and connection to the Base Unit. The active components are mounted in sockets for easy replacement. The student uses two-post connectors to quickly configure the circuit blocks, which contain test points for measuring motor and generator control signals and parameters. This circuit board can be interfaced with the 32-Bit Microprocessor board to demonstrate the principles of motor control.

The FACET Base Unit provides regulated ?5-volt DC power and protection to the circuit components. The Circuit Board is a multi-layer, G-10, glass-epoxy PC board with 2-ounce copper and has a black matte coating to enhance readability of circuit diagrams that appear in white.
